The world’s leading mobile
phone maker Nokia on
Wednesday unveiled a platform
to connect the country’s
mobile content and
applications developers to
the worldwide consumers of
mobile content, which will
open up earning opportunities
in both local and export
market.
State minister for science
and information and
communication technology
ministry Yeafesh Osman
announced the platform titled
WidgetPro Contest 2009. He
commended Nokia’s initiative
to support Bangladeshi
developers in this promising
field and encouraged active
participation by local
developers, a news release
said.

development of the country
through successful
utilisation of information
and communication technology.
We are extremely honoured to

encouragement of the
honourable state minister and
we will work hand in hand
with the government for rapid
growth and expansion of ICT
and mobile Internet in
Bangladesh,’ said Nokia
Emerging Asia general manager
Prem Chand.
Nokia initiated the WidgetPro
Contest 2009 in early
September. For the first time
ever in Bangladesh, Nokia
invited local application and
content developers to
showcase their skiffs in
developing locally relevant
and commercially viable
mobile widgets for Nokia
multimedia devices.
Applicants were asked to form
a team of two members and
around 400 teams registered
for the competition.
Nokia short listed 30 teams
based on their credentials
and quality of ideas and
shortlist teams were invited
to attend an exclusive widget
workshop to further develop
their knowledge and
understanding.
