Grameenphone Ltd. has been
shortlisted in the category of
"Green Mobile Award" for its
best Green Programme and
initiative. The winners will
be announced at the Mobile
World Congress in Barcelona,
on February 16, 2010.
Grameenphone's nomination for
the award is based on two
entries, "Grameenphone Climate
Change Programme," which
focuses on the overall Climate
Change Programme's vision,
ambition and the strategy; and
"Building a Greener Network,"
a joint initiative with HUAWEI
to transform a legacy core
network in Bangladesh into an
environmentally friendly network.
As a shortlisted entry, the
nomination itself is a
valuable recognition of the
company's efforts in this
area.The "Building a Greener
Network" entry won the "Green
Mobile Award 2009" during the
Mobile Asia Congress 2009,
held in Hong Kong in November
last year, and has been
automatically nominated for
the Mobile World Congress Awards.
The "Green Mobile Award" was
initiated to highlight the
role that mobile technology
can play in the development of
low carbon economies,
industries and lifestyles,
such as improved energy
efficiency, alternative energy
sources, recycling,
conservation, travel,
manufacturing and logistics
cost reduction and
eco-friendly consumption.
"Our congratulations to all
nominees for the Global Mobile
Awards 2010," said Rob Conway,
CEO and Member of the Board of
the GSMA. "Competition for
these awards is fierce, with
more than 500 entries
including many of an
exceptional standard and a
highly discerning independent
judging panel to impress; to
be shortlisted is quite an
achievement.
We look forward to the
unveiling of the winners at
the Mobile World Congress in
Barcelona next month."
